Update #11 - PD Opportunities and one new online tool

Welcome back after the long weekend.

Professional Development Opportunities:

1. Medfield Digital Learning Day - Medfield is hosting a free digital learning day for their teachers and staff on Friday, February 6th. They have opened up their professional development to other districts. There will be over 60 workshops involving the integration of iPads and Google Apps presented by Medfield educators as well as a few out of district presenters. If you are interested in attending, please let me know by the end of the day on Thursday, January 22nd. Jim said we could send up to 4 educators.

2. Tech 1-to-1 Day: The next Tech Day is this Thursday, January 22nd. If you are interested in working together tomorrow, January 22nd, then please sign up via Doodle. We can work together with your students on a classroom project or 1-to-1 on a topic of your choice. A sub will be in to relieve you so please have lesson plans ready.  After you sign-up, please leave a comment in the doodle form so I know what you'd like to work on together

A New Online Tool:

Thanks to Deb Russo for pursuing this...We have purchased a building subscription to "More Starfall". More Starfall offers activities to students in grades K-2 in Math, ELA and a variety of songs too. A link to "More Starfall" can be found on the Kindergarten Links page and Computer Lab Links page under For Students. You must connect to the website from these links to access our subscription. This site also connects to the original Starfall activities such as ABCs, Learn to Read, It's Fun to Read...

With our new subscription comes access to the Starfall iPad app. I will work on getting the free app installed on all K-2 and SPED ipads. If others would like it, please let me know.

Features to Note in More Starfall:

This is located at the top of the screen. The Teacher's Lounge is full of resources, projectable projects, and Teacher's Guide to activities.

If you'd like to create a class and track student usage, this can be done as well. This tool is not meant to be an evaluative piece but as a way to track what students have worked on. You would need to connect with me to begin setting up your class as well as acquire parent permission before creating student accounts.

Hallway Lab: Thank you to Jaclyn and her class for cleaning up the hallway lab on a daily basis. I have noticed many classes leaving the lab in disarray. Please clean up after your class - maybe designate a student to do a sweep of the lab for papers, pencils, chairs... Thank you for keeping this space in usable and workable condition.
