Post #6: MassCue, BrainPop, Doodle for Google and More

MassCue: Engaging - Learning - Collaborating - Exploring - Expanding - Exciting - WOW

There really isn't one word that can sum up two days of MassCue. I'm still processing and reflecting on the two days of learning. Sharing of tools and links will be coming. For now, I leave you with some thoughts from keynote speaker - Caitlyn Tucker regarding her vision to Creatively Teach the Common Core with Technology

  • put students at the center of the learning process
  • make mistakes
  • be patient with yourself
  • learn a ton
  • continue to try new things
  • resign yourself that you will never catch up (with technology)
  • PD ~ focus on one tool, one area
  • shift from the how & what of technology TO when and why to use technology

BrainPop Trial: After visiting the BrainPop booth at the MassCue conference, I signed up our building for a free 30-day trial. If you are interested in exploring this tool and it's new features, here is the login information. They have revamped the site over the past few years.

Doodle for Google:  The Doodle for Google contest is open from October 19th to December 7th. Students need to create a doodle that shows "What makes me...me"

Printing: Please avoid using the Papyrus Font. This font doesn't print correctly and causes printing issues.

Remember that printouts with multiple fonts and many graphics should be printed on new printers (Outside Guidance) or copiers. Older printers cannot handle this and print out paper with one or two lines of characters on them.

Tech Committee: Our first meeting of the year is scheduled for Tuesday, October 27th from 3:30 - 4:30 in the computer lab. All are welcome to join. We will be setting up our meetings for the year as well as focus topics. Looking forward to working with everyone!
