Post #10: Hour of Code, iPass - Report Cards, Lexia, Read&Write, Subscription Survey,

Wishing everyone a happy and restful Thanksgiving break!

Hour of Code: I will begin Hour of Code activities with students in computer class starting the week of November 30th and running through most of December. The actual Hour of Code week is December 7th - 16th. All classes will be using the Code.org site and using the courses and activities within their site. Students will have an account so their work can be saved and progress monitored. As time allows, I will also add in a few other free programming choices: Tynker, LightBot, Scratch, Khan Academy.

iPass: The Grading System in iPass is open for teachers and specialists for Grades 1-5. Some changes are being made to the Kindergarten Checklist so that is not available yet for grading. We will let you know when it becomes available.

Lexia at Home: Families have several options for using Lexia Core5 at home. They can access Lexia directly off the Happy Hollow website under For Students. If they prefer to use the Lexia Core5 app, they will need to activate the app with the classroom teachers email address after installation.

Read&Write for Google: I met with the SPED department this week to demo the Read&Write for Google Chrome extension. Things went well and they may start using the tool with students in grades three through five. If you'd like me to come to a PLC to demo the tool, please let me know.

Subscription Survey: Thank you to staff members who have completed the subscription survey. If you have not taken it, please take a few minutes to complete the 2015-16 Subscription Services Survey. (Sorry to be asking again.) Your input is imperative in ensuring that we support the curriculum tools that you use. Please help us to allocate our software budget appropriately. Thank you for your help.
