Post #16: Equipment Needs, NEW Google Meet Feature & Tip, and Setting Up Online Meeting Expectations

For your continued support and patience as we work through these new challenges of remote enrichment learning!

Equipment Needs: I am happy to support students/families/teachers with technical issues. However, if you are going into HH, you might want to consider grabbing a Chromebook (grades 3-5), iPad (grades K-2) in case you'd like to mimic the student experience.

NEW Google Meet Feature called NOD: This feature is similar to Zoom's feature of raising a hand. You might want to explore it in your next teacher meeting to see how it works.

Here are directions for adding NOD to you Chrome Browser

NEW Google Meet Tips: Having trouble turning on/off your camera? Sometimes you need to step away or eat during a meeting, simply turn off your camera.
  • On a Mac, use command + e
  • On a Chromebook/PC - use control + e
But make sure you are on the Google Meet tab when doing this step!

Setting Up Online Meeting Expectations: If case you haven't covered this with your class or they could use a review, here is a document (1-page google slide) that was shared with me today from another district. I made a couple modifications (adding the short cuts and leaving the meeting). Feel free to use or modify to fit the needs of your students.

Use the share screen feature to make it easier for students to see and read the expectations.
