Post #11: ZOOM UPDATE, TA ChromeBooks, iPevo Doc Cam, New MacBooks,

Wishing everyone a wonderful week and a relaxing Thanksgiving!

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR STAFF WHO NEED TO START A ZOOM MEETING FROM A CHROMEBOOK AS AN "ALTERNATIVE HOST"

We are learning so much about Zoom this fall. In order for an alternative host to start a Zoom meeting from a Chromebook, you MUST use the Zoom link emailed to you FROM ZOOM. You CANNOT just click on the link in the Zoom spreadsheet to start the meeting. Again this only applies to staff using Chromebooks who need to start a Zoom meeting for a teacher and are listed as "alternative host".

We are looking into other solutions but for now, this is the process. My apologies for any confusion/frustration this has caused staff, families, and students.

New TA Chromebooks

If you haven't already, please come to the lab to swap out your older laptop with the new larger Chromebooks. We need your Chromebooks to give to students who's Chromebook is not working. Sharing a few items some old and some new that you should be aware of regarding your new Chromebooks.

1. The charging port is on the LEFT side ONLY.

2. Online resources to learn more about Chromebooks.

iPevo Document Cameras

I have begun to distribute the document cameras. I hope to finish up before the Thanksgiving break. In order to be ready, please review the iPevo Document Camera direction sheet. You will need to install the necessary software on your Macbook and/or your flat panel before you can use the camera.

If you would like a document camera to use during remote learning, please be sure to add your name to this google form. I'm not sure how many I have left, but this will give me an idea of who would like one.

New Teacher MacBooks

The new MacBooks are beginning to arrive. Here is a list of people who will be getting a new laptop. Please begin your backup process NOW. You only need to worry about files saved locally on your computer (i.e, desktop, downloads, movies and photos, and the local documents folder). The easiest way is to organize your documents into folders and upload the folders to your google drive, where you essentially have unlimited storage. Refer to the backup process file for details.

Note: The new laptops will not have Microsoft Office installed.  You will, however, have accounts on office365.com to access the online version of Word, Powerpoint, Excel at no cost to students and teachers. You can also now edit and work with Office documents in Google Docs or convert them to Google Docs. You should have received an email from Microsoft with your Office 365 login information. If you cannot find it, send an email to help@waylandps.org.
