Post #4: Google Meet, Chargers, Seesaw, Google Classroom, SDP, & Zoom

Google Meet:
I believe I shared these tips before but thought they were worth mentioning again as Google Meet is still new to many of us.

1. Close up any tabs that you do not need (the fewer the tabs the better).

2. Plug your computer into power.

3. If you are sharing your computer screen and want to see the participants, then watch this video tutorial for the best way to accomplish this.

Student Device Power Cords: If a student needs to take home a device (iPad or Chromebook), I have extra power cords in the lab. Please DO NOT fish out any power cords from the carts.

Seesaw - Students have been using Seesaw during technology class in grades 1 & 2.

  • If you are a kindergarten teacher and would like assistance introducing/using Seesaw with your class, please let me know and we can set that up.
  • If you are a teacher and would like a review of the tools or tips, I'd be happy to attend a PLC or other meeting time - just let me know.
  • If you like to learn on your own, then check out this Seesaw PD slideshow

Google Classroom - If any teacher would like a review of using Google Classroom, please let me know. Happy to join a PLC or other convenient time.

Student Data Privacy:

Any online website/application that requires a student account needs to be on our approved WPS Instructional Software Tools list. If you have an application that is not on the list, there is a process to request approval. Please see this link for the approved list as well as how to work through the approval process. You can find this link on the HH website under for Staff, Technology, Instruction Software Tools Procedure. Using an approved application is good for students as it protects their data.

If a teacher only is using the application you are allowed to use it, you just cannot ask your students to use it if they need an account.

Zoom:

Zoom is still available under our free accounts. However, you are limited to 45 minutes. You access Zoom from zoom.us. If you need to download the software for the first time on your computer (because it's new), then access resources at the top right-hand menu, and download the desktop version. When installing it remember to change the installation location and say “install for this computer only”.  Then go to Self service and install the audio component. We have switched to Google Workspace for Education and you can host and attend meetings through Google Meet. But you are still able to use Zoom.
