Post #5: Teacher MacBooks, Accessing ClassLink at Home, Chromebook Wifi Issues, Tech Committee, TumbleBooks

Teacher MacBooks - We are aware that there is a new Mac OS update showing in System Preferences. At this time, DO NO upgrade to Monterey. Joe needs time to test this before we do any installs. Here is an image of what the update message looks like.

If you still need to update to Big Sur - follow these steps.

Students Accessing ClassLink on a Home Device: For students accessing ClassLink on a home device, I have put together some directions. The slideshow shows how to access via a tablet using the ClassLink App (free) and a laptop accessing via the Happy Hollow website. Feel free to share this slideshow with families.

Chromebook Wifi Issues - The Technology Department continues to troubleshoot the issues we are having getting Chromebooks to connect to the internet. Here are a few tips to try.

*stagger students logging in
*keep the Chromebook open enough to connect to wifi while giving direct instruction or while students do something else (students can turn the computer so the screen is facing you to help keep them focused on the directions),
*close extra tabs (Minimize what is running)

*restart the Chromebook and wait

Even with these tips, I know that it still can take a while for you to get your entire class logged in. Thank you for your patience.

to our HH Technology Committee volunteers - Deb Russo, Laura O'Brien, Miriam Morrison, May Moynihan, Jaclyn Mattson, Walter Rockwell, and Colleen Flannery. Our first meeting is on Monday, November 8th at 2:45 in the computer lab. If you have a question, please join us as all are always welcome, or you can pass along the information to a representative. Meeting notes will be shared.

TumbleBooks - Did you know that National Stem Day is on November 8th? Or that November 16th is International Day For Tolerance? I did not! Lots of great book connections to a variety of November events. Take a look at the TumbleBooks calendar for book connections.

Tumblebooks can be used for independent reading, group activities, storytime, lessons, and more! Students and teachers can access TumbleBooks under FOR STUDENTS - ELA

Student Device Power Cords: If a student needs to take home a device (iPad or Chromebook), I have extra power cords in the lab. Please DO NOT fish out any power cords from the carts.
