Post #6: Showing DVDs, Screencastify, and HH Tech Committee

WINTER BREAK IS HERE!!

Showing DVDs: Wondering how you can show a DVD in your classroom? Wait- we can still do that 🤔🤔

Here's what you will need:

  • borrow a MacBook from the computer lab as well as a laptop cable
  • checkout an external DVD player from the library
  • connect cable and DVD player to the laptop
  • connect the laptop cable to the IFP into an HDMI port (slot)
  • mirror laptop to the IFP (found under system preferences - display)
  • change the sound output to IFP (found under system preferences - sound)

I know this sounds complicated but once you do it a couple of times, it goes rather quickly. Here's a video demo. (Sorry I took this quickly by myself so I didn't have complete use of both hands 😂). I'm also happy to walk you through the process.

**Thank you Kori for asking so I could share the details with you.**

Screencastify
: Yes, we still have a subscription for teachers and students. This is a great tool for creating videos.

If you need a refresher, check out the Screencastify playlist. Short quick tutorials to get you up and running.

Ready to try something new with your students. Then check out the Screecastify Submit playlist

Screencastify Submit is an easy way for teachers to send a recording link to students. All of the recordings are saved into the same Google Drive folder. Teachers can elect to have students view others’ videos or not.

I'm excited to see everyone on Thursday, March 2nd in the computer lab @ 2:45. Here is our agenda.
