Post #2: Thank You Technicians!, ClassLink QR Codes, Device Care, New Chromebooks, Tech Class

A special shout-out to our amazing Technicians!!!

Our technicians got to work the week after school ended. They were busy all summer with everything tech-related including wiping student iPads and Chromebooks so they are ready for our student body to begin the new school year,  organizing and deploying tech carts, setting up new teacher MacBooks, maintaining our Google for Education Workspace domain, rostering student names in our learning tools, and so much more. They are quite a team and each has separate responsibilities but come together if necessary and work on all tech requests and projects. Please join me in thanking the following people:

ClassLink QR Codes:
QR codes are now available for all of your students in your class. We noticed on Thursday that some students/classes did not have student QR codes. This has all been resolved. Here's that review video in case you need help printing your QR codes.

Device Care: This year I will be taking some extra time in technology class to really emphasize device care. We have been pretty fortunate not to have too many breaks. But I think we could all do better. I think it's also important to remind students that WPS is "loaning" them a device. These are not the students' "personal" devices to change and completely personalize.

New Chromebooks - I am happy to report that BOTH grades 4 and 5 are getting new Chromebooks. These Chromebooks are touch screen and the screen flips into tablet mode. You can read some tips here. I will of course be covering these in tech class as I will be learning right along with you and your students. Keep in mind that the basics of a Chromebook remain the same. Phew!

Tech Class: As of now, I'm excited to welcome back all tech classes to the computer lab. Please have your students bring their device to class. They should walk with two hands carrying their device. Chromebook screens should be closed while walking in the hall. I have headphones and for grades 1 and 2 their ClassLink QR code.
