Post #5: Student Devices, Google Docs Tip, Tech Committee, TV - Room 19

Student Devices From Leisha Simon:

  • We have recommended that families pay a device Elementary Maintenance Fee. This link was shared with families earlier in the fall but a reminder is greatly appreciated.
  • If a student needs a device at home to complete nightly academic work, please send a fully charged device home with the student. Please keep track of this information in your classroom, maybe using a class list (no online form to fill out).
  • If a student needs a Chromebook or iPad to complete academic assignments during home isolation, families can contact the school office and coordinate the pick up of the school device and charger.
  • Please review/remind students of the importance of LARK as well as Chromebook/iPad care.

Google Docs Pageless formatting

Quick tip for Google Docs - If you’re working on a document that won’t need to be printed (for example student assignments that will work directly in google docs, online newsletters…), turn on “Pageless Formatting”.  This mode eliminates page breaks and all of the formatting hoops that we typically jump through to make sure the pages are arranged “just so”.

To try pageless formatting in a Google Doc, go to the file menu, choose “Page Setup”, and select “Pageless" from the dialog box that pops up.  You’ll find you now have a lot more freedom about what you add to your documents.  Play around!

Technology Committee - Our first meeting is set for Monday, November 13th @ 2:45 in the Computer Lab. Our technology reps this year are Deb Russo, Heather Russo, Fiona Reardon, May Moynihan, Timber Pech, Jaclyn Mattson, and Colleen Flannery. Thank you all for volunteering. I would love a representative from our support staff. Please reach out if you are interested.

TV in Room 19 - This week you will find a mobile large-screen TV in Room 19. This Smart TV is replacing the projector typically used in that space. Here are two video tutorials to help you use the TV with your MacBook. Please note - this is not a touch screen TV or a panel like you have in your classroom. I'm also happy to come to a PLC or at another time to show you how to connect.
