Post #7: AI, Google Chrome Bookmarks, HH Tech Committee

AI in Education: Have you started to explore AI? Do you know what it is? How AI tools can assist you with daily tasks inside and outside of school? The Technology Specialists are taking part in a year-long course exploring AI in Education. We are learning that there are many AI tools out there with more to come. As with any technology tool, you need to find the right tool for the right job.



Where do you start? I've used Bard, ChatGPT and Eduaide. Recently, I asked Bard to help with elementary student report card comments. Specifically, I requested ideas for a grade 3 student. This is a very general prompt. If I wanted to personalize the results more, I could have included more details about the student in my prompt. And check out the different types of suggestions provided! 

RESPONSE: Here are some general examples of comments you can use, depending on the situation:

Positive Comments:

  • Academic Strengths:
    • "[Student's name] shows a real talent for [subject]. They consistently grasp difficult concepts and are engaged in class discussions."
    • "[Student's name] is a meticulous writer. Their [assignments] are always well-organized and clear."
    • "[Student's name] has a natural curiosity about [subject]. They ask insightful questions and are eager to learn more."
  • Work Habits:
    • "[Student's name] comes to class prepared and participates actively."
    • "[Student's name] is a dedicated student who always completes their assignments on time and to a high standard."
    • "[Student's name] is a helpful classmate who is always willing to lend a hand."
  • Overall Growth:
    • "[Student's name] has made significant progress in [subject] this year. They are now [achievement]."
    • "[Student's name] is a motivated and conscientious student who is always striving to improve."
    • "[Student's name] is a joy to have in class. They are a positive presence and contribute to a good learning environment."

Constructive Comments:

  • Academic Weaknesses:
    • "[Student's name] could benefit from spending more time practicing [skill] in [subject]."
    • "[Student's name] sometimes struggles with [concept] in [subject]. I would recommend providing additional support in this area."
    • "[Student's name] could improve their reading comprehension by [strategy]."
  • Work Habits:
    • "[Student's name] sometimes gets off-task during class. I would recommend encouraging them to stay focused and on-topic."
    • "[Student's name] could benefit from completing their assignments more carefully and proofreading their work before submitting it."
    • "[Student's name] needs to work on listening attentively to instructions and following directions."

Google Chrome - What's New: If you recently updated Google Chrome, you may have noticed a new Bookmarks feature on your toolbar.

Bookmarks: You now have a new icon to find your bookmarks faster with search, sort, and edit tools in this side panel. You also get a thumbnail image for each bookmark.
  1. Open the Side panel.
  2. Select Bookmarks from the side panel menu.
  3. Choose a new tool to try.
